Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of…

This is a full sized version of Thor’s Hammer, made from Cherry, Walnut and Ash hardwood, wrapped around a maple core.

  • Polished oil finish

  • Leather strap

  • Inscribed plaque with dwarven runes

  • One of two made

This was a passion project, built as a showpiece for a convention along with another (which has sold). The head of the hammer is a shell made from 1cm thick Cherry hardwood, with a plywood core for strength and weight. A core of maple runs the length of the piece, into the handle which is made from laminated walnut and ash. The piece was made using hand-tools when possible, except the engravings which were cut on a CNC router before being finished by hand. The celtic design on the head of the hammer is laminated Cherry on top of Walnut, creating a two-tone pattern. There are two screws acting as insurance to hold the hammer together (in case someone is inclined to swing it about); one in the pommel and one hidden under the circular plaque on the top. The plaque has been engraved with the phrase “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor” in Dwarven runes.

This is intended as an aesthetic piece rather than a functioning prop.

Choosing Lining Material

We offer a wide selection of velvet, acrylic-felt and faux-leather lining fabrics. Each has been chosen for it’s pleasing texture and how well it compliments our products, no matter what wood choice. We also have a large and ever-changing collection of fabrics in our workshop that aren’t listed here, so if you have a special colour or material in mind, get in touch with us before placing your order.

Finish

We use Danish Oil, which gives a beautiful, smooth satin to matt finish that compliments the wood, making the grain "pop". This gives a natural look, while offering good protection to the wood and feels great to hold. Oil finishes such as Danish Oil can be easily repaired in years to come by reapplying a fresh coat straight over the old.
